Thank heavens Mom was not a hoarder-but we combined households (hard to say whether we lived with her or she lived with us-she had an apartment attached to the house) and when she passed away, the stuff remained. At the time it was reasonable to keep much of her furniture and kitchen stuff because the kids were in college and might eventually want some of it. And it was all nicely stored, but then a few years ago I realized how much we still had and didn’t need. At the very least someone else could be using it, and slowly, slowly I’m shedding bits.
