Sanitation employees posing work slowdown? Residents, workers say yes; city, union say no

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Are Sanitation Department workers conducting a slowdown on the job today?

As Staten Island residents complain about the poor snow removal efforts by the city, about a dozen people have called the Advance to report abandoned and/or stuck plows and salt spreaders. Employees, they say, aren’t in a hurry to get them working again and some have been left for several hours.

Some callers report Sanitation vehicles driving around the Island with their plows lifted off the ground and one plow caught fire on Connor Avenue in Richmond last night, causing workers to leave it blocking the street at Luke Court…
