re: #1524 albusteve

sounds like the perfect hike, a nice little overnighter…unless the terrain is to radical

I took them by car. The narrow gauge rail bed is now a graded dirt road, barely wide enough for two cars to cross, and at the location of the old South Platte Hotel site, the rail bed branches along the north fork of the Platte, and another graded dirt road heads down the south fork of the Platte… you drive down that dirt road, it becomes blacktop when you hit Douglas Country. Deckers is just down the road.

Here’s a old photo… the hotel is still there, boarded up, and tag for restoration as a historical site.

Of course, the rail road tracks and the other buildings are now gone, the only remaining structure in this little rail road stop is the South Platte Hotel.
