I believe the movie is rather famous for being cryptic on that point. At the time, leftists thought the movie was “anti-war”, rightists thought it was about military valor. Good marketing, if nothing else.


Huh. His comment on what was written on the DVD was the first time I’d heard of Patton being an anti-war film. Only part I remember was when he was urging his army on to Bastogne and some troops said “There goes ole Blood ‘n Guts” and another said “Yeah, his guts, our blood.”
But how anyone can intrepret “The object of war is not to give your life for your country, it’s too make the other poor bastard give his life for his country.” as “anti-war” is beyond me!
