I’d rather die than see the ideological foundations of this country destroyed by a bunch of soft-socialists.

If (and I hope it is a big if!) the healthcare bill passes, you’ll have a certain percentage of people who will actually benefit. Their out of pocket costs will go way down. That number could grow as other people see how easy it is to let Poppa Washington take care of all you medical bills - and the Congress might be emboldened enough to vote in more social benefits, courtesy of those of us who carry the load.

So when the next election rolls around, the conservative philosophy of making it on your own and taking care of yourself won’t fly with those people. After all, Uncle Sam is taking care of us, why do we want this to change? So the Republican very well may promise them more free goodies to win votes.

The Democrats would have successfully changed conservative ideals.
