The larger point is that the market shifting towards organic food production will increase the amount of land necessary to produce the same amount of food and increase soil erosion from tilling which is likely to do more damage to the environment than well timed pesticides and natural gas used for compost. Certainly as populations continue to climb the need for more nutritious and more bountiful production per acre is going to be a major concern, even in developed countries.

A lot of our cultural surplus is derived from the fact that food is disgustingly cheap. A shift to industrial organic food would change that.
