Hilarious Rush Limbaugh Post of the Day

Weird • Views: 3,759

Today’s jaw-dropping, insanely over the top exercise in Rush Limbaugh idolization is from redstate.com: Tonight … We Are All Rush Limbaugh.

Includes the ubiquitous Martin Niemöller quote (no right wing rant is complete without it) because as we all know, dropping a super-rich race-baiting far right radio host from a team of investors is exactly like the Holocaust.

Earlier this evening, as most of you now know, one of our own, Rush Hudson Limbaugh, while taking withering fire, crashed and burned.

Tonight, Rush is no longer ‘just’ a radio personality.

Tonight, Rush is no longer ‘just’ a NFL owner denied

Tonight, Rush is us. And we are him.

Tonight Rush became the metaphor for all of us … every man woman and child in this great nation of ours.

/It must be hard to be rich white man in the country. He needs our support!

Newsflash for Red State, Rush is not me, nor does he represent me in any way, shape, or form. He's a washed up dj now playing ignorant radio show host.

5 What, me worry?  Thu, Oct 15, 2009 10:44:43am

Why was the Left criticized and called unpatriotic when they called the Right the enemy, but it seems just fine for the Right to call the Left the enemy? Does that make the Right unpatriotic too?

I thought we were all Americans. I must have been wrong.

How quickly the shoe goes on the other foot. There was a time that using such comparisons was considered contemptible. This has always been considered offensive to the victims of the Holocaust to be used in such a base manner at LGF, but apparently those who feigned outrage at such things from the left for years, now have no problem doing so when it suits their needs. Disgusting.

HAhahahahahhaha watching all of the peasants at Red State genuinely pity a man who routinely flies over their hovels in his Gulfstream is just too rich. As for the Niemoller quote, here's my favorite spoof of it, from the former National Review essayist Florence King:

The Nanny State soon will need a cautionary tale, so I have written one for them:

When they came for the smokers I kept silent because I don't smoke.
When they came for the meat eaters I kept silent because I'm a vegetarian.
When they came for the gun owners I kept silent because I'm a pacifist.
When they came for the drivers I kept silent because I'm a bicyclist.

They never did come for me. I'm still here because there's nobody left in the secret police except sissies with rickets.

Not me. Never me. I've been coming here for 8 years. When liberal surely wasn't cool. When I was called every name in the book, but I endured it because I wanted to know more about Republicans. I never thought they weren't Americans or the enemy.

A new girl just started in my office. She's from Panama. Been here 3 months and is working on her citizenship. She was amazed that we are all so friendly and kind. Maybe she heard bad things about us.

New Americans have a broader view. Most often, they've seen enslavement in one form or another and are ecstatic to have made it here and to have the opportunity to be American.

It was a business decision, pure and simple. The executives of the Free Market-driven NFL decided that Rush Limbaugh as a team shareholder would be bad for business. Bottom line. Shareholder value.

This is Rush's vaunted Free Market operating at its best!!! Do we need government meddling to fix things for him?

And when they came for the bloated, drug-addled radio hate merchants, I said nothing because I was too busy living high off the hog on my government entitlements...

Verified quotes:

Rush Limbaugh - Wikiquote

Take that bone out of your nose and call me back.

Response to a black caller he was having a hard time understanding in the 1970s when he worked under the name "Jeff Christie" on a top-40 music program in Pittsburgh, as quoted in Newsday (8 October 1990) where he expresses some remorse at having said it; also in The Way Things Aren't : Rush Limbaugh's Reign of Error (1995) by Steve Rendall, Jim Naureckas, and Jeff Cohen [ISBN 156584260X] , and "Bone Voyage" at Snopes.com (4 September 2007)

The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well.

As quoted in "Dittohead Blues" in the LA Weekly (9 October 2003)

Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.

As quoted in "Hey Rush, when it comes to sports ... shhh!" by Mike Freeman at CBS SportsLine (27 January 2007)

And his most recent blatant race-baiting comment:

Obama's America: white kids getting beat up on school buses. You put your kids on a school bus, you expect safety, but in Obama's America, white kids now get beat up, with the black kids cheering, "Yeah! Right on! Right on!"

Sorry, but there are plenty of VERY REAL reasons to call Limbaugh a race-baiting bigot.

59 Yashmak  Thu, Oct 15, 2009 11:05:45am

Should anyone doubt the insanity and raw vitriol being spewed by Rush's supporters over this, here's the text of a couple of the responses. The first response, seemingly rather tame and questioning the wisdom of the site's article (both of these are only partial quotes. . .I pasted the relevant sections):

Rush has made a career saying things that at best, could be considered divisive. And while I don’t agree with what he says, I agree he has the right to say it. But words have consequences, and if he can’t handle the fact that a broad swath of the country do not like what he says, maybe he should find a new line of work.

- realitybiased77

Here's the response that comment:

You bailout whore, death panel loving, racist jerk. I would also like to point out that you have been accused of child molestation, and we would like to get your response to that before you post further.

What you and your pseudo-intellectual ilk ought to be concerned about is the fact that an American cannot tell the truth without the left trying to silence him, or worse.

He has just shown that this divisiveness is not without its consequence.

It garners a lot of media attention and notoriety, but when it comes to being a shareholder in the NFL, an American institutian with a broad appeal across all levels of society, it is repugnant enough to cause him to be dropped from consideration because it is seen as being detrimental to their image.

Hamas calls for unity deal changes

Hamas, the Palestinian group in control of Gaza, has said it is pushing for changes to a unity deal with its rival, Fatah, that would allow it to continue "resisting the Zionist occupation". (AKA continue killing Israelis)

In a statement released on Thursday, Hamas said it would not sign the deal until it is amended, and asked for more time to consider the Egypt-mediated proposal, which has already been backed by Fatah.

In a joint statement with seven other Palestinian factions, Hamas said the deal made "no reference to the struggle [with Israel] and the aggression against our people".

"The Palestinian factions will not sign the accord ... unless the text includes the principles and the rights of Palestinians, especially that of resisting the Zionist occupation," Khaled Abdel Majid, a Damascus-based spokesman for Hamas, said.

The simple fact is that Rush Limbaugh has made numerous statements like this. "Race-baiting" is being generous. That "take the bone out of your nose" comment is pure unvarnished racism.

re: #46 Charles

It's really not so much about bashing LGF, it's more about an assault on rational thought. At some point in the past 6-9 months, HotAir became a repository for mainstreaming Freeper-esque conspiracy theories.

Prior to the election, the kind of crap that goes on there now was not tolerated. I guess they figured out that there was money to be made by pandering to that segment of society. It's too bad, really. There has been irreparable damage done to reputations simply because of unsavoury associations.

80 Walter L. Newton  Thu, Oct 15, 2009 11:13:43am

Give me a break. A PRIVATE investment partnership (the Checketts group), along with recommendations from a PRIVATE sports/entertainment company (the NFL) decide not to accept a business offer, and suddenly it's a ALL POLITICS, ALL THE TIME issue.

No folks, it's money, the same sort of money that Rush wanted to invest and profit from. As a conservative, I recognize that as CAPITALISM. They didn't want Rush's image connected to their product. It doesn't matter why, it's their right, it's their business, it's to their profit (or loss) by dropping Rush from the picture.

Nothing else really matters. Phony quotes, true quotes, it's not a court of law, it's not a trial, it's business. Deal with it.

How's that capitalism working for Rush? Whiny conservatives, nor whiny progressives add anything to intelligent political discourse.

And the sort of whining conveyed in this article is a disgrace to conservatives.

No, it's not. I wasn't complaining about that Wikipedia entry -- I was noting that vandals were at it. And by the way, their vandalism was REVERSED within minutes.

So your point is completely without merit. The fact is that Wikipedia makes very determined efforts to make sure their entries are sourced and verified.

Not me.

Yes, new Americans can be touching in their appreciation of their new home. Most of us are as ignorant of our blessings as fish are ignorant of water.

104 Oh no...Sand People!  Thu, Oct 15, 2009 11:19:36am

He speaks for 3 hours a day, 5 days a week.

(I am even going to throw in 2 weeks vacation and another 2 weeks where he has a guest sit in for him.)

He has been on the air for 21 years. (He also had a T.V. show but I will not include that either just for the sake of simplicity.)

So for 11 months a year, for 21 years = 231 months, in which he works 5 days a week for 3 hours. 15 hours per week x 4 weeks (I will even remove the advertising 'breaks') of 45 minutes per 3 hours...that gives us 2 hours and 15 minutes a day. So 2.25 hours per day x 5 days per week x 4 weeks per month = 45 hours a month.

45 hours per month x 231 months = 10,395 hours.

10,395 hours x 60 minutes in an hour = 623,700 minutes...

Now his racist / race baiting quotes = (I will round up guestimates) = 5 minutes

5 / 623,700 = 0.000000801667468 of his commentary being 'racist'.

Does that mean he is racist? Do we really think he is racist based on that track record?
(There is a only a little rotten meet in this stew... etc. etc.)
Who hasn't said something dumb before? Ever? Ever ever? This guy monologues for a majority of his show unscripted. Sometimes he will read news articles, and once in a while something he may have come up with in advance the night before or during preparation.

And also, for any of you who had/have/still have any 'right leaning' inklings...you pretty much owe him most of your talking points since at some point he was the one who made them. He was pretty much the reason the 'MSM' lost it's foothold. So personally, he has my gratitude to a degree.

I completely disagree with his race baiting and crap statements as well as the reaction from the 'right' to correlate it to the 'holocaust'... but to me ... judging by those numbers. Just using the numbers alone. He does a good job at hiding his racism if he is racist...but then Bo Snerdley, his fellow confidante and phone 'gate keeper' is black.

I wish he didn't say what he did on any of those occasions. But to full on label him 'racist' and think it will always apply? I can't do that, and also, people can change...hopefully his track record doesn't get worse. I could be proven wrong.

It gives his network a solid lock on his demographic and allows him to sell his advertising time for premium rates.

But it makes his image incompatibe with that of the NFL, at least according to the decision of their Board of Directors.

Rush Limbaugh’s Lip Meets Soros Cash in NFL Bid

Limbaugh’s group is led by former Madison Square Garden President and current St. Louis Blues and Real Salt Lake majority owner Dave Checketts, who brings a wealth of sports industry contacts, know-how and credibility. Checketts also brings big-time backers like George Soros, who financed the duo’s failed attempt to buy the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2003.

Checketts’s ownership of hockey’s Blues is backed by, among others, TowerBrook Capital Partners, which was formerly known as Soros Private Equity Partners before it was spun off from Soros Asset Management Group in 2005.

I want to buy the Redskins so I can change their name to the "Native Americans"

Why?
Washington Redskins

Notwithstanding the protests of activists, a 2002 poll commissioned by Sports Illustrated found that 75% of those Native Americans surveyed had no objection to the Redskins name.[37] However, the results of the poll have been criticized due to Sport's Illustrated's refusal to provide polling information (i.e. how participants were recruited and contacted, if they were concentrated in one region, if one ethnic group is over represented and the exact wording and order of questions).[38][39] But in 2004, a poll by the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania essentially confirmed the prior poll's findings, concluding that 91% of the American Indians surveyed in the 48 states on the mainland USA found the name acceptable and setting out in detail the exact wording of the questions.[40]

History of the Redskins

The team moved to Fenway Park[15] (home of the Boston Red Sox) the next year, and Marshall changed the name to the "Redskins" apparently in honor of then-coach Lone Star Dietz,[16] an American Indian (he claimed to be part Sioux, but his actual ancestry has been challenged).[17]

Huh?

The larger point is that the market shifting towards organic food production will increase the amount of land necessary to produce the same amount of food and increase soil erosion from tilling which is likely to do more damage to the environment than well timed pesticides and natural gas used for compost. Certainly as populations continue to climb the need for more nutritious and more bountiful production per acre is going to be a major concern, even in developed countries.

A lot of our cultural surplus is derived from the fact that food is disgustingly cheap. A shift to industrial organic food would change that.

That was a mistake. Racism doesn't know political bounds.

E.G. We could start with most of the members of ISM, go to Wright, Jackson, or look at that Icon of the left, Ghandi. I believe Hillary has made some questionable comments as well.

Hillary's a bigot? Oh please.

Members of the ISM? And who except for maybe some indy media types actually respect them?

Wright and Jackson are not icons of the left. Even blacks are embarrassed about Jackson, I'm assuming you mean Jesse. Neither of these men are leaders of Democrats.

Rush is a leader. The chairman of the RNC apologized TO HIM.

But you are correct that it's not something drawn on party lines. Certainly there are bigots of all stripes on both sides. The ones I'm most worried about are the ones that people are listening to and agreeing with.

Strawman.

Everyone talks all their lives. Utter the "N" word or other like things for one second in front of me and I will consider you racist. By your measure racists don't exist anywhere, which is surely false.

Much to my stupidity I was a foul mouthed jerk growing up you name it, I am sure I said it. I am doing infinitely better than before, but what I said versus my actions taken were 2 different things entirely. Now the goal is getting them both to align.

Sorry, but there are plenty of VERY REAL reasons to call Limbaugh a race-baiting bigot.

The bone in nose... well that was a long time ago, and like I said the McNabb thing was just like when someone said that the only reason Obama was the Democratic candidate was because he was black. That he didn't really earn it...(a female former democratic vp candidate, who will remain nameless).

I disagree with characterizing both McNabb and Obama that way, BUT it is not (IMO) racist.

The school bus thing was stupid, but still not (IMO, remember) racist. the situation happened, and it was ugly. But he did not take into account that it happens the other way around just as often, if not more often. We all agree that it should be punished either way.

I think we give too much credence to the influence of ANY media personality in general (opinion types, not hard news)

There were 130 MILLION votes cast this past Presidential election. The highest # Beck acheived was a "special" he did that attracted 3.4 million. On average, his nightly show does about 1.5 million

Rush claime he has 17 million listeners per week. At 5 days a week that comes out to just over 3 million a day. I would venture a guess that most of those are the same people day in and day out

I'm not saying they don't have influence, but after being in the broadcsat biz for over 25 years I can say their "numbers" aren't overwhelming

re: #208 sattv4u2

Rush and Beck scare me because they have a radio/TV show

((side note ,, last years Super Bowl was watched by 93+ MILLION people)))

Ok, but the superbowl is an annual event only so you're going to get a lot of people. Besides you can't compare something like that to a talk show. Ya gotta do apples to apples, or in this case bananas to bananas (i made a funny heh).

Those millions sound like a lot of people to me. I don't think Wright reaches millions. In fact, I know he doesn't. Thank goodness for small favors.

But hey, if he wants to spend his money on a football team, why should anyone care? Let him buy whatever he wants. We're supposed to believe the NFL has standards?

On the other side, should his business partners be able to re-evaluate if he is an appropriate partner to purchase the team?

Should anyone care if they decide to ask him to step out?

How about Keith Olbermann making a comment along the lines of "Hillary needs to be taken into a room by a guy and only the guy should come out"? (made during last years heated D primaries), does that sound like hate to you? Talk shows hosts in general are jerks and I avoid partisan shows both on the left or on the right.

I do too. I'm not a Keith O fan. I think Beck and Rush are worse than him, but that's probably because I'm liberal, I don't know. I think they all pretty much suck.

Hillary has had so many anti-feminist things said about her over the years, I'm assuming it bounces off now. Doesn't make it right, of course, but she seems to blow it off.

From Mark Steyn:

From your link of Mark Steyn:

He does his show every day with an off-mike black sidekick yakking in his ear (Mr. Snerdley) and he has a black guest-host (the great Walter Williams). More to the point, when I began guest-hosting for Rush, I was amazed to discover that George Soros pays a team of stenographers, many of them called Zachary, to work their tippy-tappy fingers to the bone for three hours transcribing everything Rush or his fill-ins say in the hope that their efforts will one day be rewarded and he will deliver the big career-detonating soundbite. Among the afficionados of this service are, as I discovered recently, America's "newspaper of record," which faithfully follows the George Soros typing pool and dutifully plasters any potentially damaging bon mot on page one.

Steyn is just being a tool here. Recommend people go read the Bloomberg article that Ben Hur put up. Limbaugh, like many of the super-rich, runs with the crowd of the super rich, rubs their elbows, and unwittingly or not are their allies.

Furthermore, "Steyn's defense" of Limbaugh that relies on the idea that one of the guest hosts being black, as well as the screener, misses the point entirely, as well as being the typical excuse used in all cases of race/creed disputes.

What Steyn is (intentionally) deaf to is the 20+ year history of Limbaugh crafting his product towards an audience that includes groups who feel aggrieved by the actions of modern civil rights movements and this nations attempt to address racial sins of the past. Limbaugh is the master at feeding the revanchist spirit, has been at it for decades, and it has made him very wealthy precisely because he is so good at it.

I came home from doing one of THE hardest things in life. I just placed a parent in a senior home. It will get easier as time passes, I know. I am a very hated person right now. There's just no way you can prepare yourself for this kind of thing. I know it's best for everyone involved.

I've been there - I had to put my mom in assisted living a couple years back. It didn't matter that it was an upscale place that cost me nearly $2,000/month; she could not accept it.

Fortunately, the real problem was that she was over-medicated for tremors and this was causing what appeared to be dementia. Adjusted the meds and she was able to live independently again. I know that is not the typical case, but since she was confused she could not grasp the reason she needed the constant nursing care.

Indeed. It's a little disillusioning, but things are not going to get better until we look at this problem in the face and confront it. Look at the trend on voters, and you can see this ugliness isn't going to bring voters back. Just the opposite- they're fleeing in droves. Independents are more numerous than either party, and the party who can grab them will win. What the right is doing is pushing away their own moderates, and alienating themselves from Reagan democrats. The path we're on is not the one that will bring us back. Rush isn't in this for conservatism- he's in it for him. Let him own his karma.

It's called freedom. You get to choose what you eat, based on things like taste, price, and now, where and how it's grown/produced.

If there's a market for organic food (obviously there is), ain't nothing wrong with that.

Personally I believe half of it is probably bogus, but then I'm not the one paying for it.

Personally for me, yes, I don't like seeing anyone being attacked for their size or looks or sexuality. It's amazing to me that we can comment here about racism, which deals with physically what someone is (you know, black, white what ever), but putting someone down for their other physical traits is ok.

Without knowing the details of construction, I'd be concerned over a catastrophic failure of the balloon's envelope. It isn't likely, but it isn't completely out of the question, either.

It seems as though it's descending fairly rapidly anyway, so best to just wait things out. If it were climbing, or had leveled off at a few thousand feet, more aggressive action might be warranted, but it sounds as though things will work themselves out fairly quickly.

So noone sees the irony in that whatever Limbaugh said was enough to get his chances of buying into a sport of spolied babies trashed and yet, we elected a man who sat listening to Rev Wright for 20+ years and didn't that that was bad and stop him from being President.
I think people are missing the point of the article, why its OK for Obama and the left to make racist comments and yet a private citizen is taken to the wall for it. Just saying.

If one person or body had made both decisions, it might be reasonable to act as thought they were connected. That is not the case.

In the category of "racism is dying out", we have this spot of good news: interracial marriage a political plus. From the article:

Gallup surveys indicate that only 48 percent of Americans approved of marriage between blacks and whites as recently as 1994, a number that had risen to 77 percent by 2007.

Other barriers fell long ago: Phil Gramm, for example, a prominent conservative elected to both the House and Senate from Texas, is married to woman of Korean heritage who was born in Hawaii. This year, in deeply conservative South Carolina, state Sen. Nikki Haley, who is of Indian descent, has put her husband, who is white, and their children front and center in her campaign for governor.

“It’s a total nonissue,” said her spokesman, Tim Pearson.

As it should be, Spike Lee's opinion on the matter notwithstanding.

The two money quotes that got every one so lathered are wiki fabrications. Networks other than Fox have searched and been unable to produce them. The wiki author can easily be shown via search to spend a great deal of time compiling quotes useful for trashing Republicans and conservatives... it's a substitute for real work, I guess.
Limbaugh has said enough provocative stuff in his twenty years on the air that actual quotes are easily searched and soundbytes are available , those two were not.
Didn't matter. He was NFL toast for his McNabb opinion, years ago.
If the Democrats are pinning their stay-on-top hopes on this strategy, they may want to rethink.

Quite simply, what is happening to Rush is beyond outrageous and frankly dangerous to the property and free speech rights of all Americans.

Bonus whining:

That’s right. Serena Williams, who recently threatened bodily harm to a lines woman on national television, is a part owner of the Dolphins. I must have missed the hand wringing from anyone associated with the NFL or the media about whether she was fit to be an NFL owner. Oh wait, I forgot. Over the past month, rumors circulated that he was in a coma and his ruthless son Mojtaba was ruling (with Ahmadi-Nejad’s help) in his father’s name … Denial of Khamenei Senior’s death has to overcome some visible changes:

1. Government buildings are being draped in black cloth. (Reports on this come from multiple Twitters).

2. All Islamic Iranian TV announcers have suddenly turned to wearind all black clothing.

3. Bassiji Suppression forces have poured into the streets to enforce crowd control and prevent gatherings, which have not yet taken place.

4. The constant grumbling of clerics about the Supreme Ruler and efforts to replace him with a Ruling Committee have abruptly ceased.

The balloon will slowly lose altitude & where it comes down will determine a lot, as will the wind speed at the ground. power lines will be a major hazard.

Can they get a helicopter up there, throw some kind of a line, and tow it to a safe spot to come down?

Best-case scenario at this point - the parents turned their backs. The kid untied the balloon. He ran away scared of what they'd say and is still hiding.

Praying for that to be the case.

I really hope so. However, it sounds as though the authorities are going to map out the flight path and begin a search. The poor little boy would have had only a few seconds after "launch" to jump out safely, if that's what happened.

Because obesity provokes negative reactions in people. That's why, when the TV networks report on Rush Limbaugh, they run stock footage of him at his mid-Nineties flabbiest.

Rush Limbaugh is not an acceptable sports investor because of his politics. How else to interpret the state of a sports world where Keith Olbermann can be on Sunday Night Football and Rush Limbaugh's hard-earned money can't be spent as a partial owner of a team in a sport he loves?

Memo to K-Lo: Olbermann? Sportscaster. Get a clue.

Andy McCarthy grants us his wisdom:

That's how Rush treats people — in the Martin Luther King aspiration that the content of one's character is what matters, not the color of one's skin. Yet, in the media narrative, he's somehow the one who's got a race issue.

The LOLercoaster is never-ending.

I somewhat buy into the theory that Rush knew there was a ~99% chance this would all play out this way, and that's why he did it – as a cynical career move. Now that he's successfully martyred himself on the battlefield of racial politics he can use this to garner pity from ditto-heads and stoke white resentment for years to come.

Let's hope so, but earlier on, when this first started to unfold, they had helicopters buzzing the balloon and even then they couldn't see any kid aboard.

They were speculating over an hour ago that he may have fell out early on, before they got to the balloon to check it out. And the parents were not aware that the balloon had taken flight at first, so they were not watching the balloon ascend when it fist took off.

He could have fallen out then.

re: #567 Walter L. Newton

From the pictures I'm seeing, it wouldn't have been big enough to get him off the ground in the first place.

I hope I'm correct.

577 John Neverbend  Thu, Oct 15, 2009 1:22:38pm

re: #573 SixDegrees

I'd say that's a near-certainty. I just don't see a balloon that size getting a kid off the ground.

I can't say, as I don't have enough information to do a meaningful calculation. I did hear that part of the balloon was missing (I think it was a basket or gondola), and it doesn't seem to have been present on any of the videos. Something appears to have fallen off the balloon, but it may just have been an empty container. If this really happened, early on in the flight, it should be a little easier to find than having to search the entire flightpath.

The absolutely worst , most sinking feeling in the world is watching the Sheriff's truck race up and down the long stretch of sand, scanning the ocean for a tiny child, and then having him get dogs and dune buggies... and you can't find him... it is just ice water in your heart.

I think what he is so upset about in large part is the gratuitous acceptance by a willing media to spread false quotes without checking thoroughly. Those are in the vernacular now, and he'll never be able to get them erased, even though they were made up.

Technically, lyrics amount to fiction or art. Perhaps some people use it to build a Raison d'être or life philosophy but normal human behavior dictates that we do otherwise. Limbaugh on the other hand disseminates words (which are far from random) that are non-fiction and de facto philosophies for his listeners.

The extent of Jay-Zs political work merely encompasses philanthropic activity. While the same extends to Rush, he is also involved as an unofficial speaker for the GOP (see Steele apologizes to Rush) as well as a speaker to events such as CPAC.

What little young people might be inspired into politics through CPAC and other events see Rush as a role model they may some day grow up to become involved in politics. On the other hand, those inspired by Jay-Z may only seek a career as a musical artist.

Wow -- I didn't know there were so many Rush haters on this side of the fence! I've been out of the loop for way to long.

I don't hate Rush, but he has a record of habitually line-stepping in regards to race issues...like some might say, "Don't start no shit, won't be no shit!"

re: #635 tradewind

No. I'm saying he was banned from the game, quite rightly, and now he's welcomed back. And he's playing with teammates, as are all or most of the NFL teams, who have criminal records, and I don't mean for parking tickets.
It all seems copacetic with the owners' groups. Just a tad of a double standard.

The way our legal system (and moral system, supposedly) is structured, Vick has paid his dues for his crimes and now has a chance to move beyond them. We'll see how that works out, but so far he isn't abusing animals anymore.

Limbaugh, on the other hand, just keeps piling the shit deeper and higher on a daily basis, without even a glimmer of repentance or remorse.

I'm not seeing the double standard. I'm seeing two entirely different situations that don't compare with one another.

You guys do realize the quotes that have been attributed to Limbaugh are made up, right?

Start at the top of the thread and read downwards. If you can pry yourself away from Rush's talking points for more than a few seconds at a time, of course.

Flattery seems to temper the aggressive urges of insecure leaders. When Fast and Chen coaxed the egos of these volunteers by praising their leadership skills, their aggressive tendencies all but disappeared. This is proof that leaders are aggressive because of a hurt ego, not simply a threat to their power, Fast says.

Thought this strangely appropriate.

Limbaugh has absolutely said some stupid things. Still, what's been going on last few days is pretty incredible, and really fits the definition of libel against a public figure. Even if Limbaugh is saying that he doesn't think it's going to cost him any money, there's reports that he's already looking at action. His lawyers will probably convince him that he was, legally speaking, harmed financially.

I also find it incredible that LGF is not seeing the parallels between what's going on here, and what went on with the Killian memos. Limbaugh's detractors _know_ he's a racist. These fake quotes (the most outrageous ones reported) prove what they already _knew_. Fake but accurate!

That's a ridiculous and silly comparison.

AGAIN, someone shows up to point out that TWO quotes are unverified, as if that excuses away the MANY verified and sourced race-baiting and outright racist comments.

There's a reason Limbaugh calls his cult members 'Dittoheads' - they are completely incapable of thinking for themselves or believing the world around them is anything other than what El Rushbo says it is. Facts and reality have no impact on these people.

I'm guessing that if Reverend Al Sharpton was part of a group set to buy the New York Jets and outrage over Sharpton's actions against the Duke Lacrosse team caused the NFL to disallow Sharpton's ownership role, there might be a few blogs that would react with:

" Tonight, Reverand Al is us. And we are him. "

Explain, exactly, why it was silly. Did I not open my post saying that Limbaugh has said some stupid things? Historical (not faked) records showed that Bush was removed from flight duty because he hadn't taken a physical. But then someone with a political axe to grind shows up, fabricates something, and makes the whole thing worse than it actually was.

I don't often have much to say here (I post often elsewhere, local newspapers, slashdot, fark, etc.), but i read pretty much every day.

THE quotes? No, two quotes have been outed as false, while innumerable others are verified as having come straight from his mouth. See the innumerable links verifying these innumerable quotes.

Referring to football teams as looking like a rumble between crips and bloods? Telling a black person to take the bone out of their nose? These are things he is verified as having said himself. How are they any less outrageous?

I'm gonna have to politely disagree with that article.

I'm not a racist, drug-addicted, fat, soulless scum of a man.

So no, I'm most definitely not Rush Limbaugh today.

677 Hector1980  Thu, Oct 15, 2009 5:41:19pm

Also, we might have to ask ourselves why, if as a few right wing pundits have said lately, Rush doesn't 'have a racist bone' in his body, so many people easily believed he had said slavery was a good thing?

678 TDG2112  Thu, Oct 15, 2009 6:41:21pm

Has anyone noticed how 20 years ago Rush and company would nonstop attack the "culture of victim-hood," but now non-stop pretend to be victims? His entire show is how he and his fellow conservatives are nothing but helpless victims.

679 Avary  Thu, Oct 15, 2009 6:47:04pm

Yes, the cult of victimhood is now a big part of the right wing. And their Fox News hero Glenn Beck is a guy who weeps on camera.

Good article from WSJ

Leveling Limbaugh
The NFL punts to left-wing political intimidation.

[Link: online.wsj.com...]

The premise of the article:

1) rush limbaugh was rejected by the NFL
fallacy of non-sequitor (which is a straw man, with #2): Rush Limbaugh was not rejected by the NFL, but by his own business team.

Should this country require these businessmen partner with Rush Limbaugh?

2) the NFL doesn't actually have a problem with limbaugh, but the controversy is being used to assist them in other negotiations
fallacy of bare assertion: this is a conspiracy theory with no evidence.

fallacy of non-sequitor: the article fails to link rush limbaugh's rejection to how it could benefit the NFL's negotiations

fallacy of non-sequitor: the article continues to present the NFL rejected Limbaugh, instead of what really happen: his business partners cut ties with him.

3) The NFL is not a clean organization because Bill Belichick's shenanigans were forgiven

fallacy of non-sequitor: the NFL is not in this fight, this was a simple business deal among private citizens.

4) Rush's conservative political speech is the reason he was rejected.

strawman fallacy: the only issue i've seen presented for rush's rejection was rush's racist and race baiting speech.

bare assertion: we don't know the reasons for the rejection, because this is a private business contract.

Interesting point, though: i wonder if the article's writer wanted to conflate "conservative speech" with "racist speech".

5) Keith Olbermann is the left's Rush Limbaugh and HE is able to be on NFL TV shows

fallacy of false equivalency: Keith Olbermann is a sports caster

note: Rush Limbaugh has attempted to be a sportscaster, but he blew that in 2003 when he made the McNabb comment on ESPN's "Sunday night Countdown".

6) the right will riot if Rush Limbaugh is pushed out of political life.

Let me back away from this article, right now ... slowly. see... i'm unarmed.
