re: #79 garhighway

Our most drug ridden violent areas are still our most violent areas. Crooks got guns. Because California is so very strict as compared to say Florida, Louisiana or Texas our gun owners are pretty fierce about their rights and their skills.

We still have a ten round limit.
“Assault Guns” (a misnomer but I digress) are banned here.
No full auto guns.
No laser sights on rifles.
Possession of a high capacity magazine will likely get you jailed at least until you post bail.
We still have a ten day wait to buy a gun. Even though a background check takes mere minutes.
Guns long tested and approved approved for cops and the military are subjected to destructive “safety” testing by the state before they can be sold. The smallest change like adding a rail for alternative sights forces another round of destructive testing. Even changing the finish can cause that to happen.

Comparing gun violence in California might be interesting. Unfortunately areas with the highest gun crime rates are often areas with the strictest anti gun laws. Not always. To me the gun violence seems drug crime driven not gun density driven.
