Twenty years ago, the President could’ve comfortably fit into the moderate wing of the GOP. If the 2008 version of Romney had won that election, he probably would’ve enacted stimulus packages and Romneycare not much different from the President’s.

Not true, Obama’s a liberal. Liberals were largely gone from the GOP by 1995, though Newt let a couple in the House stay on with leadership support, because they helped him keep control of the chamber.
