re: #154 Nojay UK

The weird thing about the Lucky Dragon 5 incident is that at least one of the crewmembers of the fishing boat was still alive in 2013 (and may be still alive today, I don’t know — they were in their 80s according to the press report I saw a little while back). The fallout affected all of the crewmembers who suffered extreme radiation sickness but only one of them died promptly, a few weeks after the test. Radiation sickness is surprisingly survivable although the long-term chances of getting cancer are much higher of course.

Only if your exposure is moderate at most. For high exposures, you will linger for an indeterminate period of time (Cecil Kelly lasted 36 hrs, Louis Slotin 9 days, Harry Daghlian 20 days or so), time which is chock full of suffering. To give you a hint, even the most potent painkillers like Fentanyl will only take the edge of the pain off.

Also, Castle Bravo, wasn’t it the bomb they misjudge the yield on, i.e. it was a coupla times bigger *KABLOIE* than expected?
