I think the difference is that people have such different experiences of aging. Some people slip into dementia in their seventies, some are sharp as a tack until they die at a hundred and nine.

That is indeed true, and worthy of consideration. But the same could be said of the mental/emotional development of young people who are stuck living by arbitrary age limit rules.

And imagine if we applied such arbitrary, age associated rules to the elder end of the spectrum. IHOPs the nation over would be slightly inconvenienced!
