I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and I still don’t see any major holes in the idea that 2nd amendment rights should be strongly linked to responsibility.

For example, eliminate the legal concept of accidental discharge of a gun. There is only deliberate firing and negligent firing, and if anything goes wrong just follow the ordinary principles of criminal and civil liability as they relate to intentional and negligent acts.

Oh, I’m completely for this, but I wonder how easy it would be to implement in practice. I’m amazed by the truly impressive desire on the part of a lot of supposedly “responsible” people to ignore fatal gun accidents because, you know, such things happen, and toddlers will be toddlers.

Unfortunately strict responsibility doesn’t address the problem of “person wants to commit mass shooting and has no intention of surviving” - legal consequences clearly aren’t relevant to such people.
