It pays better. Pop, i.e popular, meaning mainstream, and more album sales. I think once they get rich, some go back to their roots, or experimental side projects, because they can afford to have an album bomb. Up and comers don’t have that luxury.

Likewise, I heard a couple tracks off the much-anticipated Lambert album, and hated them both. Tepid, very tepid. I’d rather he went off and toured with Queen, and had the world at his feet, but he doesn’t much care what I think. Odd, that.

True about the money. I dated a girl in junior high who was a musical prodigy - sang opera, played harp, piano, harpsichord, guitar, flute, clarinet and a few other instruments, wound up getting a Masters at Julliard…and got a job as a park ranger at Walden Pond. She then went on to marry well, but all her immense talent and classical training didn’t mean jack when it came to making even a modest living.
