In Twilight, they’re “vegetarians” (i.e., they feed on animals, not people, so they’re not only sparkly, but non-threatening too), they lack fangs and just have razor sharp teeth instead, and the text strongly hints that Edward was a virgin when he became a vampire at 18 and stayed one until he met Bella 90+ years later, and he’d only have sex with her after marrying her because of his “values”.

It’s the most sterile, sexless version of a vampire story I’ve ever read, and that’s saying something when you realize that Bram Stoker’s book came out during the Victorian era. =P

I personally prefer the Brian Lumley Necroscope type of vampire. Alien killing machines, barely human, who view humans as either food or material to form thralls and warbeasts for their unholy crusades.
