A pen is one of those things I can never bring myself to spend real money on. I’m not sure if I’ve ever been able to keep one for more than a week or two before losing it.

My two gifted fountain pens never leave my desk for that reason, though I am obsessive about even forgetting to take one of my el cheapo gel pens back from my classrooms.

I really like the fountain pens, but if you don’t use them regularly they clog up. Gel pens work all the time, as long as there’s ink in the tube — which you can see. Not as elegant as a fountain pen, but arguably more useful for someone who is not chained to a desk.
