He might know them, personally, I suppose. The detail that makes me think it might be more random is that the shooter started by shooting a man outside who was getting on his motorcycle. Doing that is taking a risk that your actual target might get blocked off as a result—what if an employee reacts fast enough to chain the doors and yell for everyone to get down?
