Don’t forget that vast majority of the hooligans from European soccer are the far-right “Ultras” that have almost identical political beliefs as your typical Tea Partier/SoCon.

Nationalistic? Check.
Anti-Immigration? Check
Engage in intimidation tactics, involving weapons? Check.
Blatantly racist? Yep.

A simple Youtube search of “ultras nationalists” will yield literally thousands of videos.

That pretty much nails it; most of the problems with rioting football fans here in Europe can be put right on the doorstep of the Ultras. There was a small-scale riot here in Ostrava a month or so back, and again, it was the handiwork of Ostrava Banik (the name of the local club) Ultras.

I’ll go to a game when the weather’s nice - it’s a nice way to get out of the house - but I’m very selective as to which games I’ll attend. I will avoid like the plague any match between Ostrava Banik and Praha Sparta, because if there’s gonna be a riot, that’s where it will start, as the Ultras from both teams tend to show up owing to a hardcore rivalry.
