Damned shame. Apparently, the plane went down almost right after takeoff - it seems the pilots were trying to turn back to the airport in Sochi. Maybe some kind of catastrophic mechanical failure right after rotation, or perhaps too much back pressure on rotation (I’ve read that can cause a tailstrike or cause a plane to stall and crash).

In any event, a sad loss for Russia. My condolences to their families.
