Democrats voted for Obama precisely because of his color and despite his glaring lack of experience and personal character, in ironic contravention of MLK’s dream of a color, race-blind nation. Republicans elevate people like Steele (and Palin, and that guy in Louisiana who is Vietnamese) based on merit, rather than race or gender. Yet somehow the Republicans are the bad guys.
