I know you were speaking sarcastically. But I have an honest question about this type of belief. Is there any modern christian theology to back up the idea that contemporary suffering has anything to do with one’s state of grace?

Can only speak up to the 60s, but Catholics would allow for the possibility. They don’t make it a feature.
