The sheer delight they were getting from it is what freaked me out.

There was a video that came out sometime in the mid ’00s, night vision footage of a couple truck full of supposed insurgents in Iraq, which showed individuals being shot to pieces with the 20mm cannon of an attack helicopter. This got a lot of play on the archery forum I frequented, and it made me real uncomfortable, the backslapping and cheering that went on among the folks there.

There was apparently a limit, however. The same guy who posted that little bit of war porn later posted a picture of an insurgent who’d been killed by a sniper’s head shot. Apparently the reality of that was too much for them.

I think the night vision stuff was like a video game, but seeing a real dead guy with his head actually exploded in daylight and full color was too real. At least for some of them. I know others thought it was cool, because he was a bad guy. Or so they’d been told.
