The weaknesses in TrueCrypt sound just like those another writer noted about Snowden’s other fave app, Off the Record (OTR). I paged it here littlegreenfootballs.com

One trouble with open source software is the occasional lack of follow-through. Some projects, like Linux and its many flavors, have solid support and the dedication of its author to keep it alive. Others, like TrueCrypt and OTR, apparently depend on people with short attention spans.

This is something of a trouble with any smaller software company. I have had several applications that I really liked, only to watch them shuttered when the developer got bored or got a better-paying gig. CMS plug-ins too.

Nature of the beast, I suppose.
