Carl in Jerusalem linked an article a few days ago where someone in Israel (Peres perhaps?) wanted to transfer ownership of several Christian holy places to the Vatican. I thought it sounded like a great idea—let the Vatican, which has very deep pockets, take over protecting and maintaining Christian sites within Israel. It will be harder for so many Vatican officials to maintain their warped views of Palestinians vs Israelis once they physically engage in concrete threat assessment, IMHO.
