Yep. One of the mindsets that our fellow citizens would do well to abandon is the notion of “house = security”.

A mortgage is a liability to be paid off asap, so that as little interest $ as possible is wasted and so that larger life decisions aren’t further complicated by the disposal of a large mortgage.

On one hand, it’s easier said than done. On the other hand, sometimes it’s as simple as being more conservative with a purchase…smaller energy bill + smaller mortgage = a house that’s quickly paid in full…and a smaller carbon footprint! (insert choir of angels here)
