Foreign Ministry spokewoman Jiang Yu said Tuesday there had been “some regression” on the part of developed countries, who had “put forward a plethora” of demands on developing countries. She said it “will hamper the Copenhagen conference.”
China and the United States are the world’s top two carbon polluters and have been at odds in Copenhagen.
Beijing’s view is that the US and other rich nations have a heavy historical responsibility to cut emissions, and any climate deal should take into account a country’s development level

Calling China a “developing nation” is a joke.
As others have pointed out, China is the world’s largest CO2 emitter, and it pumps out something like 5 times the CO2 per dollar of GDP than the US, indicating that China is using grossly inefficient production methods that are essentially unregulated.
Here’s a plan: demand that China do what the US did years ago and install scrubbers on their smokestacks and emission control systems on their vehicles. My prediction, based on the figures cited, is that this would result in at least a 75% reduction in CO2 emissions from China.
Oh, wait - they’re demanding that the rest of the “developed” world, of which they’re somehow not a part, pay for any such measures, and that it’s mostly the US that should do the paying. Again. After paying for our own improvements in this area already.
I have a feeling this conference is going to be every bit as successful as Kyoto.

What defines “developing nation”?
Per capita income?
Per capita net wealth?
Percentage of populace in agriculture?
Percentage of households electrified?
???

By CO2 emissions, a direct measure of manufacturing ability which is the traditional measure of development.
And that’s what everone wants to reduce. CO2 emissions.
Allowing China to do nothing, or only what other countries pay for, is a joke.

Bush administration era emails recovered—but who recovered them?
Former Bush White House spokesman Scott Stanzel said the 22 million e-mails already had been recovered while Bush was still in office and that misleading statements about the former administration’s work demonstrate “a continued anti-Bush agenda, nearly a year after a new president was sworn in.’’
“The liberal groups CREW and National Security Archive litigate for sport, distort the facts and have consistently tried to create a spooky conspiracy out of standard IT issues,’’ Stanzel said.
The 22 million e-mails “would never have been found but for our lawsuits and pressure from Capitol Hill,’’ said Anne Weismann, chief counsel for CREW. “It was only then that they did this reanalysis and found as a result that there were 22 million e-mails that they were unable to account for before.’’

Taunton second-grader suspended over drawing of Jesus
A Taunton father is outraged after his 8-year-old son was sent home from school and required to undergo a psychological evaluation after drawing a stick-figure picture of Jesus Christ on the cross.
The father said he got a call earlier this month from Maxham Elementary School informing him that his son, a second-grade student, had created a violent drawing. The image in question depicted a crucified Jesus with Xs covering his eyes to signify that he had died on the cross. The boy wrote his name above the cross.

My fiancee is from Michigan/Ohio. I went there to visit her family— wonderful people— and was literally shocked by the miasma of depression in the area. There was just a sense of a lack of hope in so many people, and most of the young people I talked to just talked about getting the hell out of there.

Last year comcast bought a local cable company in Indiana and closed down all the local production/billing offices here. They kept a majority of the old cable company employees and even offered large raises to move to their corporate hq in MI. Of the 6 people I know who took the offer and moved, 4 have already quit and moved back.

Yeah… I couldn’t live there. My fiancee is trying like hell to get her parents, and her aunts, and her grandmother, to move the hell out of there, but they need to sell their houses for a decent price to do so, and selling houses in a suburb of Toledo is not exactly the easiest thing to do.
It’s one reason it annoys me whenever people say that people can always flee a local, state-level government; not if you’ve got a house to sell, you can’t.

Yep. One of the mindsets that our fellow citizens would do well to abandon is the notion of “house = security”.
A mortgage is a liability to be paid off asap, so that as little interest $ as possible is wasted and so that larger life decisions aren’t further complicated by the disposal of a large mortgage.
On one hand, it’s easier said than done. On the other hand, sometimes it’s as simple as being more conservative with a purchase…smaller energy bill + smaller mortgage = a house that’s quickly paid in full…and a smaller carbon footprint! (insert choir of angels here)

(CNSNews.com) - Forty members of Congress are calling on the military commander who ordered the court martial of three Navy SEALs over the alleged punching of a terrorist to dismiss the charges.
The letter, circulated by Rep. Dan Burton (R-Ind.), was sent Thursday to Army Major Gen. Charles T. Cleveland, commander of Special Operation Command Central. Gen. Cleveland ordered the prosecution of the three SEALs.
“In our opinion, prosecutorial discretion should have been exercised,” the 40 congressmen said. “Failing that, we respectfully and strongly urge you to exercise your leadership authority, stop the impending court martial and exonerate these men.”
Earlier, 33 House Members had signed a letter to Defense Secretary Robert Gates asking him to intervene in the case. That letter had been circulated by Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.). Military law experts told CNSNews.com, however, that the Defense secretary’s ability to intervene in a court martial could be limited.
U.S. congressmen representing two of the SEALs’ home districts signed the letters. Only Republican members signed the letters.

Stupid Thing of the Week: Minors and moonshine
Not too much doubt about the winner of the Stupid Thing of the Week award this time around. For pure idiocy, you just can’t top selling moonshine out of a daycare center. That’s what Gwendolyn Brown-Johnson and her husband, Artis Johnson, were charged with at their daycare operation off Tuckaseegee Rd.
What made the case even more award-worthy was Brown-Johnson’s Web site description of her center as a place where local youth are counseled to avoid alcohol and drugs.
The real topper, though, was Brown-Johnson’s explanation for the arrest, in which she claimed that she loaned $80 to a man from Gaston County, who gave her a package to hold until a woman came by to pick it up. The woman turned out to be an Alcohol Law Enforcement agent, who promptly arrested the daycare center owner. Brown-Johnson says she had no idea what was in the package, and that she had been set up by a neighbor who hates her for working with code enforcement in the neighborhood. So far, we’ve heard of no one who actually believes her.

Mexico: Grammy winner sang at drug cartel’s party
TEPOZTLAN, Mexico – When soldiers raided a drug cartel’s Christmas party south of Mexico City, they found 16 automatic rifles, $280,000 in cash — and a Latin Grammy winner. The presence of the Texas-based norteno singer Ramon Ayala at the gathering in a wealthy, gated-community and the lavish festivities showed the audacity of Mexico’s drug cartels amid a government crackdown that has sent thousands of soldiers and police to track them down.
A spokesman for the federal Attorney General’s Office said Monday that Ayala was released after being questioned because authorities found no grounds for charging him with a crime.
Mexican norteno bands often sing about drug trafficking and violence and many have been rumored to perform at drug traffickers’ weddings and other parties, but few have been caught.

Interesting story, the complete opposite end of the spectrum from the school drawing story:
Does N.C. City Councilman’s Avowed Atheism Bar Him From Office?
The story goes like this: Bothwell was elected to the city council last month, and was sworn in last Monday. During his swearing in, he used an alternate oath that does not require officials to swear on a Bible or refer to “Almighty God.”
…..
But such statements are not sitting well with conservative advocates, who, according to the AP, cite a little-noticed quirk in North Carolina’s Constitution that disqualifies officeholders “who shall deny the being of Almighty God.” The provision was included when the document was drafted in 1868 and was not revised when North Carolina amended its Constitution in 1971
So, according to their state constitution you have to believe in God in order to hold office. That would be an interesting USSC case.

I’ll try and post this near the top, but the ice core data is destroying the AGW theory:
here and here and here. This is hard data based on chemistry (physical processes, not biological). It shows how the AGW theory is wrong. It shows equivalent warming in the MWP (something even CRU scientist Keith Briffa states many times in the CRU emails regarding his tree ring proxies). It shows the amount of disinformation being spread.
Charles, you felt you were misled to and used when you were skeptical. Let me ask you something, now with more hard data (and hopefully the ability to think past your ego on being possibly wrong twice), who is it really who is being paid by big corporations in this debate?

Developing: Another terror attack in Pakistan killed at least 20, and wounded dozens in Islamabad. More than 500 people have been killed in recent months in terror attacks by Islamists seeking to stop the Pakistani government from going after the Taliban in the frontier provinces.
Meanwhile, the Times of India is reporting that the CIA may have known about one of the people implicated in the Mumbai terror attacks, David Headley.
Top official sources said that there is a strong suspicion that US agency CIA knew about Headley’s link with Lashkar-e-Taiba one year before Mumbai attack but did not convey it when he was freely travelling across India. The investigators believe that the US agencies kept away the information from India and never allowed the Pakistani- origin Headley to get “exposed”.
The 39-year old terror suspect, arrested by FBI for his role in Mumbai attacks, had visited India in March 2009 — four months after Mumbai attack carried out by LeT — but FBI still did not inform India that Headley is a LeT operative, apparently fearing he could be arrested in India.
The sources said that they apprehended that if Headley got less punishment in court then India would have a reasonable ground to believe that Headley was a US agent and also working for LeT.
It could also add credence to the belief that there was a plea bargain between Headley and US agencies.
Sources said if Headley gets a jail term of just two to four years then India will press for his extradition after he serves his sentence.
And to round out the terror roundup, Abbas warns no peace talks until Israel recognizes pre-1967 border demands. Thanks for the preconditions, but here’s one that the Palestinians will never accept - a two-state solution with Israel as a Jewish state. Hamas already says they will never recognize Israel and seek Israel’s destruction, and Fatah doesn’t control all of the territory Palestinians already have civil administrative control over - they got whacked from Gaza in 2005-6.

Let me know when your theories have been peer reviewed, and what journal to find them in. Then we’ll talk.
Don’t hold your breath. Bob Carter whose views the blog posting is based on has stated in the past that he thinks that the role of peer review in science literature is overstressed.

Good Morning! One complication I feel deeply is the fact of exaggeration (at least) in the summaries for the public on both sides of this. This is a natural outcome of the strong advocacy. I am reminded from of my own experience in the gun control arena. NRA et al vs Handgun Control.
Then as now my reaction is to dig deeper. But in AGW the facts are coming from far more complicated models, sources and papers. A person like myself can only escalate the science comprehension so far, given the lifelong training and work that went in to the data gathering and interpretation.
Your point is refuted else where here. I’ll be reading into that later, and I will be interested in your reaction that that refutation.
But I have a direct question for you-For the sake of conversation-If the current climate shift in natural and damaging, and cutting mans emissions would slow this, what then?

Obama’s new program? Cash for caulkers. Hey, I did that the first thing when I moved in and have been incrementally improving home efficiencies since I moved in. Some of the projects would have been done regardless of the availability of tax credits since I’m saving money on heating. A couple tubes of caulk can cost $5 each. Spray foam is similarly priced. You can get R30 insulation for $20 a batt. So, for about $400 I added R30 insulation to the attic, bringing it up to close to R45, and sealed any leaks I could get to in the basement. That’s where the savings comes from, and tax credits or incentives to convert to more efficient homes isn’t actually going to create jobs. It’s just spreading the money around.
Oh, and I got a much more comfortable house in the process.

I’ll address your last point, since that’s what Copenhagen is looking at - it boils down to costs and burdens.
Who will pay and how much will it cost.
How will it be paid for****
Will countries sacrifice economic growth for emissions controls meant to cut emissions below target levels?
**** dictators look at Copenhagen as a way of enriching themselves. Poor nations want money since they can’t do anything on their own and have their hand out knowing that the rich countries “owe” them. China’s leaders need economic growth to keep the population in check from revolting and that means playing both sides - looking like they’re curtailing emissions all while continuing to grow and emit more than any other nation on the planet (and have the air so thick you can cut it to prove it). The US and Europe are trying to show that they’re serious about emissions reductions, but don’t want to saddle their moribund economies with still more taxes and fees that will stifle economic growth.

NYC was going to implement a requirement that building owners had to conduct periodic energy audits and implement solutions based on findings. That got watered down recently - the implementation requirement got dropped.
I agree that apartment buildings have little incentive to do this, but if you know what energy costs are present in apartment buildings (maintenance, heating/cooling/etc.) and compare it to more efficient buildings in the area, people will choose those that have cheaper overhead. It makes some economic sense for owners to make those improvements, but just not as fast as someone owning their private residence.

A suicide car bomber struck Tuesday near the home of a former Afghan vice president and a hotel favored by Westerners, killing at least eight people and wounding dozens in one of the safest neighborhoods in the city.Afghan police officials said the target of the bombing had not been confirmed. But security officials at the scene suspect the bomber was going after the home of former Vice President Ahmad Zia Massoud — brother of famed anti-Taliban fighter Ahmad Shah Massoud, who was killed by al-Qaida two days before the Sept. 11 attacks.

Now I see these guys on Green TV with electric cars and a drag bike. They claim these silly low numbers. I can’t prove this but I call BS on their contention they can run that 1/4 mile drag bike on a dimes’ worth of electricity. That bike hit 147 mph. The motor exploded at the end of the run. On a dime?

In a word, no. Groundwater is not treated by the bill.
this Act will treat, as `waters of the United States’, those features that were treated as such pursuant to the regulations of the Environmental Protection Agency and the Corps of Engineers in existence before the dates of the decisions referred to in paragraph (10), including—(A) all waters which are subject to the ebb and flow of the tide;
(B) all interstate waters, including interstate wetlands;
(C) all other waters, such as intrastate lakes, rivers, streams (including intermittent streams), mudflats, sandflats, wetlands, sloughs, prairie potholes, wet meadows, playa lakes, or natural ponds;
(D) all impoundments of waters of the United States;
(E) tributaries of the aforementioned waters;
(F) the territorial seas; and
(G) wetlands adjacent to the aforementioned waters;
(9) `ground waters’ are treated separately from `waters of the United States’ for purposes of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act and are not considered `waters of the United States’ under this Act;
That means underwater aquifers and artesian wells are not covered and included in the definitions of this bill.

No sign of agreement in Copenhagen -
After testing the limits of brinkmanship on Monday, all sides took a collective deep breath. The European Union Minister of the Environment, Andreas Carlgren, emerged to tell reporters that ”we are really prepared to really discuss all issues in the negotiations”. Wong said Australia was not trying to kill Kyoto. But still, all the developed countries insist they want a deal that brings the big polluters in the developing world into a separate binding treaty and are determined not to sign up to ambitious targets without big movement from China, India and Brazil.
With this stand-off continuing, just how much the 120 leaders can do when they arrive is limited. The proposed agreement is still riddled with ”brackets” - spaces left for the contentious details to be inserted.
As Marcelo Furtado, the Greenpeace observer from Brazil put it, ”They are still bracketing Mother Earth.”

Gore is actually a skeptic or denier, but knows he is such an ineffective spokeman for ANY cause that he has strategically chosen to feign as if he was pro AGW, when anyone can tell in his heart his is actually anti AGW.//
It’s kind of like dressing in the opposing team’s colors, sitting real close to the home plate umpire and berating him constantly while knowing your behavior is actually causing the umpire (who readily admit to this truth) to start giving close calls to your team. Not everybody is ready and willing to do such work themselves whether because of general cluelessness or just not willing or able to take the time to do it. We have a similar tax credit and rebate program up here in Canada and I know at least two general handypeople/contractors personally that have said that it’s been a boon to their businesses since it’s been implemented. It’s actually difficult right now to find people now to do such work in a timely manner. Geothermal installation is happening all over the place around here and the owners of the services have said it’s directly connected to the hefty rebate that the government now offers. They’re so busy now that there is a now a wait time to get a system installed. My parents got one done and between the actual installers and the sub-contractors they used I’d say about 15-20 people were involved. Might not sound like that many but that’s just one company of many.
In the past year I’ve seen advertisements from new companies that are specializing in home retrofits.
We had a guy come in recently to replace some subfloors who by trade is heavy earth moving machine guy who said in the past couple of years so his job-prospects have fallen off in that area but now he’s finding a whole lot of work doing odd jobs like insulating and doing other as he puts it brainless and easy projects like that to the point that he’s started paying other people like his friends and family to help out. He’s considering actually making it an official business.

They can measure the cost of electricity based on the quantity of power drawn from the socket. A couple hours charging time wont cost all that much, so it is plausible that to run a quarter mile track will cost a dime.
Problem is that the technology isn’t cheap, the infrastructure isn’t there to support it, and the duration of the batteries isn’t such for long distance commuters. It could work for those people who solely drive less than 40 miles a day, but if they intend on driving distances, they would need a second vehicle (and the associated energy costs of owning, maintaining, let alone the production of said second vehicle).

It’s already heavily regulated, and yet Congress and the EPA have done little to enforce potable water standards - hitting municipalities hard for violations. They instead rely on consent agreements and other measures to cajole enforcement. Of course, some municipalities have fought the EPA - like NYC - but lost in the end, and the result is the construction of a filtration plant that is more than 3x the original cost (now running $3 billion).

NY Story:
I was in NY attending the World Business Forum in 2007 and at the end of the last day, I had the same return flight as a diminutive female co-worker. There wasn’t an unoccupied taxi in sight that evening, and it was pouring to boot.
After failing for a half-hour to find any taxi on any street, a guy in a company car (i.e. unmarked Lincoln town car) pulled up and said he had a few hours before he had to be to his next stop, did we need a lift. So of course i said yes and thank you and off we went.
So my co-worker is quiet the whole time. Unusually quiet. We made it to the airport on time, caught our flight, etc. Uneventful.
Talking about it a week or two later with some friends at work, it turned out that she had never been to NY and had no idea that the thousands of bronze, maroon, and black Lincolns in the city were company cars. She literally thought that I accepted a ride from some random dude with an African accent and that we had a 50% chance of ending up in a warehouse with gags in our mouths and ransom calls being made in the background.

And for some people, lack of the proper muscles to do these jobs!
I’ve been caulking, spackling and painting my dining room walls for 3 weeks.
I have the first coat of paint up on one wall. Not working today because I hurt, and the massage I got yesterday did not work out all of the kinks. At the rate I’m going, it’ll take another 2 months to finish this job. I’m ready to hire somebody to do it for me.
I know the feeling. I’ve been going fairly extensive renos for three months. Yesterday I finally finished the last coat on the dining room. My whole house is one big reno, it literally had holes in the walls and roof when I bought it. :) I’ve hired out for the odd job, like the subfloors though technically I was capable of doing it myself, but unfortunately can’t afford to get everything hired out. Sure would if I could though. I’m sick of it. :)

Uganda bans female circumcision
The Ugandan parliament unanimously passed a bill banning female genital mutilation, a traditional rite that has sparked an international outcry and is practiced in some African and Asian communities.
The practice, which involves cutting off a girl’s clitoris, is also called female circumcision. In some communities in eastern Uganda, it is practiced in girls up to age 15.
Convicted offenders face 10 years in prison, but if the girl dies during the act, those involved will get a life sentence, according to officials in the east African country.

Speaking of that front- I also found this from Kenya, I believe:
Campaign against female ‘cut’ bears fruit
Cases of female circumcision have gone down drastically due to a vigorous campaign among Cushitic communities in Tana River District.
Representatives of various community organisations and NGOs working in the area said that from about 50 girls circumcised each school holiday a year ago in Galole Division, only about three cases are reported today.

If you read the article, the comparison is made there; basically, their charitable front groups funnel money back to the HQ, and they encourage members to get more and more involved, until they’re living life entirely on the terms of the cult.

Courtney Love loses custody of daughter
Rock star Courtney Love has lost custody over her daughter Frances Bean Cobain. Two legal guardians have been appointed to care for Frances Bean, Love’s 17-year-old daughter with the deceased Nirvana front man, Kurt Cobain, CNN has confirmed.
According to legal documents originally obtained by TMZ.com, the court has appointed Kurt Cobain’s mother, Wendy O’Connor, and his sister, Kimberly Dawn Cobain, to watch over the minor.
I hope Frances is alright- she’s been through enough.

I read the article… you have a statement about the “image” issue…
“According to ex-members Whitnack and Fahlberg, professionals such as doctors and lawyers are to NatlFed what movie stars are to Scientology. They’re recruited to lend authority to the group, but aren’t necessarily informed of its core revolutionary mission, and are not required to endure the isolation and other privations of full-time members.”
And there is evidence of multi-level marketing. Which is certainly not unique nor original with S$cientology. Bernie Madoff was running a similar operation, and I would not call his investment group “like S$cientology.”
I only make these comparisons because S$cientology is an extremely dangerous organization, and they go far beyond multi-level marketing and leftist politics. People who have joined and become ensnared by S$ientology have become destitute, mentally ill and even have been murdered and/or died.
This scam political group is no way like S$cientology and I would not ever make the comparison, it’s no where near that. How much do you know about the inner workings of S$cientology?

In terms of the financial doings of this particular cult, it is similar to Scientology; it has a lot of front organizations set up, many of which mask themselves as professional organizations with little connection to the main group, who’s purpose is to solicit money and new recruits. So far, the group has managed to avoid tax prosecution, as well.
I completely agree that Scientology’s reach and power far outstrip this cult, and any other cult on earth. However, as you can see from the article, people who have been ensnared by this cult have also become destitute— they use tactics of ratcheting entrapment just as Scientology does.

Harassment across Arab world drives women inside
The sexual harassment of women in the streets, schools and work places of the Arab world is driving them to cover up and confine themselves to their homes, said activists at the first-ever regional conference addressing the once taboo topic.
Activists from 17 countries across the region met in Cairo for a two-day conference ending Monday and concluded that harassment was unchecked across the region because laws don’t punish it, women don’t report it and the authorities ignore it.
The harassment, including groping and verbal abuse, is a daily experience women in the region face and makes them wary of going into public spaces, whether it’s the streets or jobs, the participants said. It happens regardless of what women are wearing.
With more and more women in schools, the workplace and politics, roles have changed but often traditional attitudes have not. Experts said in some places, like Egypt, harassment appears sometimes to be out of vengeance, from men blaming women for denied work opportunities.
They are lashing out at the changing face of their societies- more women out in public working and educating themselves. The Horror!
Statistics on harassment in the region have until recently been nonexistent, but a series of studies presented at the conference hinted at the widespread nature of the problem.
As many as 90 percent of Yemeni women say they have been harassed, while in Egypt, out of a sample of 1,000, 83 percent reported being verbally or physically abused.
A study in Lebanon reported that more than 30 percent of women said they had been harassed there.
“We are facing a phenomena that is limiting women’s right to move … and is threatening women’s participation in all walks of life,” said Nehad Abul Komsan, an Egyptian activist who organized the event with funding from the U.N. and the Swedish development agency.
And that’s exactly what the harassers want- to make women so uncomfortable, they stay shut inside- a cultural purdah. Even women in niqab are being harassed!
Amal Madbouli, who wears the conservative face veil or niqab, told The Associated Press that despite her dress, she is harassed and described how a man came after her in the streets of her neighborhood.
“He hissed at me and kept asking me if I wanted to go with him to a quieter area, and to give him my phone number,” said Madbouli, a mother of two. “This is a national security issue. I am a mother, and I want to be reassured when my daughters go out on the streets.”
President Obama did well in his Cairo speech to mention muslim women, but he discussed hijab more than women’s rights. I hope he gets word of this conference and in the future uses his influence to help address this issue, because feminism is the answer to radical islam.

I read that this morning. They pull her away at age 17? Although I think she lost custody a couple other times. She’s almost an adult now. Any damage is already done. And I suspect there is plenty. Frances has been doing a lot of fashion modeling… which means she’ll be nekkid in a few years (see Britney and Miley) and look like 45 at the age of 25.
Maybe it’s jealousy on my part or just cruelness, but I don’t care. I worked my ass off since I was 14. I’m almost 20 years from retirement. Another 20 freakin years! I never had a silver spoon or daddy’s trust fund. My prayer for Frances is that she hits her head on reality and will have to actually work for a living, but what are those chances? That trust fund is too large, even if her mother shot most of it into her arm.

My only concern with your statement, and this article, is that a person would not think that S$cientology, in scale, is not much different than this group (or similar groups).
S$cientology is on a scale of it’s own. And I would love to see this country take the same lead as have been seen in Germany and France and make an attempt to actually outlaw S$cientology. It is not a religion, it is a mafia-styled international crime organization in the guise of a religion.

here and here and here.
Wow, you really have some stones to come in here and tell me I should “think past my ego being wrong” (whatever that means), even as you tout a ridiculous, long-debunked pseudo-scientific theory and tell me it brilliantly proves every scientist in the world is wrong, except you, because you posted it on your blog.

And once again, of course, we have the connections to industry front group the Heartland Institute: Bob Carter - SourceWatch.
Carter was a speaker at the International Conference on Climate Change (2009), organized by the Heartland Institute think tank. [1] Carter is also listed as a speaker for the Heartland Institute’s June 2009 Third International Conference on Climate Change.
Carter also says the IPCC has discovered absolutely no evidence at all. And that peer review thing scientists seem to love? It’s just overrated.
In March 2007 the Sydney Morning Herald reported that “Professor Carter told the Herald yesterday [March 14th 2007] the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change had uncovered no evidence the warming of the planet was caused by human activity. He said the role of peer review in scientific literature was overstressed, and whether or not a scientist had been funded by the fossil fuel industry was irrelevant to the validity of research. ‘I don’t think it is the point whether or not you are paid by the coal or petroleum industry,’ said Professor Carter. ‘I will address the evidence.’”
Great “expert” you’ve found, AJ.

Well, considering I don’t even know squat about them, how would I know the “oh god” was in reference to them. I though you were trying to say “hey stupid, don’t you know…”
Sorry if I misunderstood, ok?

She can’t help who her parents are. Her father abandoned her in the most permanent way possible, and it leaves scars for life. I wouldn’t think her life so easy were I in her shoes, because we all have our cross to bear, so to speak.
True, but her story is all too familiar. The odds are that her life will be one disaster after another. Lots of kids have drug addict parents, except they don’t have million dollar trust funds that keep growing and that helps a great deal. Eh, maybe not. Maybe she’d be better as a poor slob. Then she’d be forced to become something or wither away.

Mark Meckler Revs Up the ‘Die-In’ Crowd
Here’s a short video from the gathering of Tea Party activists today in Washington, before they set off to stage a “die-in” in Senate office buildings to protest health care reform. In the clip, Sacramento-based activist Mark Meckler explainsto the crowd that President Obama was trying to distract attention away from them, and reporting that the 9/12 march attendance was either “more than a million” or closer to two million.

No, but I come out of the chute every morning really frisky! Mornings are my best time. When I had a full time job, I always managed to get my bosses to let me start 1-2 hours earlier than everyone else, if possible. I got more done in those early hours than everyone esle did all day.

Why you think posting >3 year old denialist videos would change our minds when we’ve already examined all of the specious claims in them and seen them not only seriously refuted, but also serially refuted since the same lobbies keep dredging them up and recycling them ad infinitum.
Prof Bob Carter at least receives some money for the snake oil he sells, why are you working as an unpaid shill for Phillip Morris, Esso, Caltex, Australian Utility lobbies, and BAT? All of them fund IPA, the right wing think tank Carter pimps for.
The temp data for weather stations in the US has been normed and correlated with satellite and other data, and refuted, he’s merely repeated the repudiated Watts. The Roy Spencer Iris theory has been slammed to submission. etc. etc. etc.
If you are going to further this swill ya oughta at least get paid for it since you are selling off your reputation.

re: #382 avanti
Interesting; and for all the cost bending the curve talk, the costs doing something per Senate plan, for doing nothing, and the SCHIP plan per household are strikingly similar. In fact, it’s pretty much the same ($19,286; $19,586; and $19,575). The question becomes shifting the premium cost burden.
Nate’s analysis for this one household example shows that none of this reduces the cost of health care one iota. It merely shifts burdens of who pays for a household that meets those criteria.

The problem is these guys will tear it out of your house (improperly, leaving drifts of exposed asbestos behind) and dump it in a big, unremediated pile on the side of the road somewhere.
I meant the other way. I was playing off of his comment about unethical contractors….hiding asbestos in people’s homes as non-regulated insulation.
What was the Vonnegut book about Radon poisoning? Someone mentioned ice-9 which if from Cat’s Cradle. I was thinking it must have been Mother Night—another DVD I have on my shelf that I haven’t quite watched yet.
