In Chicago, police officer have killed more people so this year (16) as than they have lost over the previous 15 years due to gunfire. They have shot 43 people so far this year. The latest was a 13 year old kid.

Lives do depend on police action, most of whom depend on the police not shooting them.

They’ve been trying to take down some very violent drug gangs. Doing so involves more aggressive moves into gang territory, which produces an uptick in violence. This is like the surge in Iraq. It will get worse for a short time, then it will get better.
