There’s a bit of that, but without fear there won’t be action. And while it probably could kill a couple million people in Africa without ever coming to the US, it behooves us to take the current outbreak of Ebola seriously.

Only problem is that what’s needed won’t ever happen under the current system of world, regardless if one drums up the fear or not.
