re: #160 BusyMonster
When I was in high school I was very much a minority (white kid in an inner city school). As I saw my classmates applying for minority scholarships that I was not eligible for because of my ethnicity, I railed against the racism that would put their skin color over achievement. I asked out loud and more than once why there couldn’t be a white response to the NAACP and other orgs offering minority scholarships.
When I got to college I was surrounded by more white students than I ever had been before. It was then I understood “white privilege” and understood that despite being poor I had an advantage others didn’t simply because of the color of my skin.
I was asking the same question as Ron Paul when I was 17 years old and very ignorant to the ways of the world. I didn’t remain ignorant but Ron Paul apparently did.
