When I was taking etiquette/cotillion classes as a child (hey, we were a frou-frou elite family), one of the MOST important rules they stressed to us, repeatedly, was “if the Queen of England can always be on time, so can you. It’s a mark of low breeding to keep someone waiting when for a pre-arranged appointment.”

(I also know how to fill out a dance card, and which fork to use for which course. And I can eat pizza and BBQ while wearing white gloves and not stain them.)
