Doesn’t a 17 year old, if of sound mind and good health, have the right to leave home?

Varies from state to state exactly how it works but I think in California you have to file a petition for emancipation of a minor which has to be OKed by a judge and requires a court battle (the basis for the 1984 film “Irreconcilable Differences”) if the parents wont sign it.
