They’re leery of them because of lies told to them by the right wing, including the GOP in general, who are undermining America’s security by doing so.

It’s not just that. The UN is indeed often corrupt, inefficient, and anti-American. The lurid stories told about the UN are generally wrong, but there’s enough real dirt there to make the UN problematic.
