IMO competent US diplomacy regarding North Korea would involve zero bluster with North Korea itself. I’d just want to go around to the entire rest of the world propagating the idea that, since NK is China’s client state, China should be held jointly responsible with NK for any further NK outrages.

China is the only outside power with any real leverage in NK, and they can’t be allowed to continue with this second-hand provocation.

Hardball play- China is as responsible as NK in the event of a missile launch, and will be subject to direct nuclear retaliation.
