Russians never have run boomers (SSBNs) or SSGNs (cruise missile boats) up close to our coast, only SSNs. To provocative, boomers could use a depressed trajectory shot of the coast and reduce warning time to a couple of minutes, same with the SSGNs. They have run SSNs, the attack boats up close, testing defenses and scouting.

You can also bet they have shadows, either a 688 class or 21 class.

I have no doubt they have shadows and I draw comfort from that fact. I’d be surprised if they ever sent boomers though. The Delta IV class is in poor condition. They do have an operational Typhoon and are refitting two others but those don’t need to come close. They could hit us from the Barnets Sea.
