re: #138 Targetpractice, Worst of Both Worlds

I love how they put FDR so high on the list for trying to pull us out of the Great Depression by helping folks who couldn’t help themselves and putting America back to work while laying the foundation for the post-war boom, but don’t even put Hoover on the list for turning a recession into the Great Depression and driving us into such a deep hole in the first place.

The hole wasn’t ten years deep when Hoover left office. FDR did try, but trying doesn’t always cut it. Burnsides TRIED at Fredericksburg.

The CCC was FDR’s best step domestically. But when everybody else pulls out of the depression faster than you, politics being graded on a curve, you don’t get an A.

FDR gets a B because no matter how inadequate and misguided much of his depression policy was, he did get things mostly right as a war leader. CINC points carry him.
