Yes that would piss me off certainly and I’ve had those experiences. I think it’s obvious when it’s derogatory.

But I say ALL THE TIME, “The girls and I are going to lunch.” “What are the girls doing?”

And I need to stop it because I think it pisses people off. Old habits and all, you know…

I say that stuff too. It’s like ethnic terms that a member of the ethnic group can say to one another but oh shit if someone outside the group uses it. If you called me a girl or used my name in the diminutive as a friend I wouldn’t think anything of it. Context is everything.
