re: #157 Targetpractice

Listening to wingnuts pump themselves up by saying that the success of the UKIP means that “conservatism” is gaining favor even in Europe. But everything I’m hearing says that far-right groups winning at the polls yesterday owe most of their success to protest voters than an ideological shift amongst the populace.

The success of various right/far-right parties in the EU elections is more a reaction to ongoing economic uncertainty in Europe than anything else, and even there, the far-right’s “success” wasn’t universal. Sinn Fin did quite well in Ireland, and in Sweden, parties of the left performed very well also.

Like you noted, more of a protest vote than a broad-based ideological shift.
