Here in Ostrava, it now means you can now use your debit card on the transit card readers installed in the trams and buses to pay for your fare. You don’t need to buy a paper ticket or a transit card (I have a transit card for the entire city).

Ah. Well, we don’t even have contactless debit cards. I got my first chipped card last year, and have used the chip end (as opposed to swiping the magnetic stripe) maybe three times.
