I had a similar experience. Many years ago a girlfriend of mine told me she wasn’t feeling well and cancelled our date for that night. I decided to go to the movies anyway by myself.

We were long overdue to call it quits after four years together but she avoided the issue. And still would not tell me why, just hit me with some cliché talking points about “needing to be single”…
