I only ask because when I hear pundits on tv/congresscritters they always go for the small stuff while ignoring the big stuff.

what conservatives say: smaller government!

what conservatives should be saying: many, but not all sectors of our government could benefit greatly from a far sterner focus on deliverables, quality, and cost control…with the results to weigh heavily on the performance reviews of the managers and directors in the government.

there is a heavy focus efficiency that has evolved in many private organizations because their survival requires it; most governments, ours included, would serve us better by adopting a similar focus in some areas.

(i say ‘some’ because other areas, like the pursuit of research for the sake of research, is about the pursuit more than the deliverable)

unfortunately, too many conservatives can’t properly understand or articulate the concept of cost-efficient, deliverable-driven processes and so they say “smaller government1!” instead.
