According to the idiots supporting this decision, Garner was apparently going to spontaneously die at the exact moment the cops tried to arrest him. Just bad luck for that poor officer.

A friend with legal training pointed me to the eggshell skull rule, which is in tort law but also a variation in criminal law. Lawhawk could probably correct me if I’m in error, but in criminal law the rule says that a person “takes their victim as they find them,” as in it doesn’t matter if a person had a heart condition that could have led to death, what matters is the person on trial did something that led to their death. So saying “He had a bad heart” does not absolve these cops of the result their actions led to, which was his death.
