What amazes me about “gun culture” is how often its participants indulge in the fantasy of “I could take you out, I’m dangerous” and “I’m just waiting for X to fuck up so I can start shooting at those people” but also want to be viewed as serious.

I mean, all of their competence fantasies start with the idea that everyone else is stupid, weak, and about to snap at any moment. Their understanding of crime is that it’s strangers and easily-detectable weird people, not the guy next door.

Whether or not they can hit a target is non sequitur when they have no self-awareness, no situational awareness, and no interest in how crime actual goes down.
