I know what you mean. My uncle was killed in Europe, WWII. When I was a teenager, I brought home a Germand girlfriend. My mom was not thrilled, but she stiffled it and for the 2 years I dated the girl, my mom was a gracious as can be. It was only afterwards she told me what she was holding back. She knew it was “wrong”, but it’s what she felt.
