OK you have me there sort of. It does sound so goofy to modern ears, that it invokes a smile. Then I think of all the other pogroms that came from it.

But you’ve made a point about anti-semitism that I think we can both agree on.

Pointing out the outrageous goofiness of it can be a very useful thing. Such a wonderful historical example of insanity can be used to shed light on the complete nonsense of the whole enterprise.

Pretty much everything from the middle ages can sound pretty goofy. Leeches and Bleedings? Hell, even “tar and feathering” has been used to great comical effect.
