But yeah I see conservatives all the time blame LBJ and the war on poverty for “ruining the black family.” Let’s look at reality. The war on poverty was never actualized to the extent LBJ wanted it because of Dixiecrats and the GOP and also Vietnam. Secondly, conservatives ignore the rise in prosecuting victimless crimes like drug offenses which is what they championed. And then there’s the inevitable is that two parent households will go down somewhat as divorce becomes more common in a society. In fact, one can reasonably argue that anti-poverty programs do more to keep families stable than not.

The war on drugs has done more to ruin the black family than the war on poverty.
