Well. This is boring. BBL

That’s too bad because here’s a Lebanese paper reporting the same story: 60’s too sexy for modern Egypt

Not content to stamp out current examples of the “moral deviancy” that they claim is ruining their country, Egyptian authorities have begun doing retroactive censorship. Religious and political figures have started going through the archives of the Masapero Library – which houses Egyptian movies from the 50’s and 60’s – in order to get rid of the scenes where people are seen “kissing and dancing,” according to this article.

Some of the country’s greatest cultural gifts to the Arab world are on the cutting block, including films featuring famous belly dancers Najwa Fouad, Tahia Carioca, and Samia Gamal as well as movies starring Farid al-Atrash, Sabah and the iconic Abdul Halim Hafez.

The effort to de-fun Egypt’s heritage is being led by the ironically-named Freedom and Justice and Al-Nour Parties.

Now, it came as no surprise when they decided to ban internet porn last week, but this is a new and unsettling low. If mild stuff from the 60’s is being deemed offensive, imagine what’s next.

Here’s the arabic source article

It might be true, it might not. Let’s see what happens.
