re: #154 Vicious Babushka

Isn’t Thessalonians one of Paul’s letters? IOW it’s not the teaching of Jesus. I’m not all that familiar with the NT.

2nd Thessalonians is a mashup. Some legitimate writing of Paul is mixed with later materials that people wanted in his name. Those waiting for the Messiah’s second coming were a later problem. As I quoted yesterday, the much more legitimate Christian response (traditionally ascribed to James who was believed to be the brother of Jesus and the leader of the followers of Jesus in Jerusalem until the revolt against the Romans) is to simply give as much as possible to those in need.

Likewise the “pastorial” letters - where we get all the hardcore antisemitism and anti-women crap (Titus, 1 & 2 Timothy) which were later responses to gnosticism and attempting to fit emerging Christianity into Roman cultural norms despite the fact that the still quite Jewish Christianity that Jesus and Paul taught it did not fit into Roman society.

There is a lot of weird stuff in the New Testament that would make Jesus or Paul want to slap someone for including it.

And I have even gotten started on that bit of fertilizer called Revelations…
