Been getting churched up on the recently toppled Silent Sam statue at UNC.

Sam was made in the heart of Yankee-land, Chestnut Hill Massachusetts, by a Canadian, John Wilson. It cost the United Daughters of the Confederacy $7500 in 1913, equivalent to about $185,000 today. That kind of comparison is notably imprecise, but having been involved with a couple of similar projects, I would guess that would be about the current cost of an equivalent statue.
Wilson also produced a number of statues for Union organizations, notably the extraordinarily powerful Washington Grays Monument (“Pennsylvania Volunteer”) in Philadelphia.
