There is a Merkel husband, actually, I looked him up. He uses his own name, though, and does not like to be called Herr Merkel, even as a joke. He’s a professor at some German university, and while he apparently thinks it’s nice that Angela has a job being the Chancellor, a friend commented that ‘he’s not going to carry her handbag’.

And Angela’s not putting him in charge of overhauling health care, or some other major national project for which he wasn’t elected?! How… appropriate.
