It engaged a pitifully inadequate number of people judging by the vote total (again, just over 7% of registered Democrats and about 5% of registered voters), and would now be forgotten except a lazy incumbent was even more pitiful.

What do I want the Democrats to be? A party that governs and expects to govern. A party that makes promises it can keep and doesn’t lie to the people. A party that defends America (and through it, Western civilization) from the darkness of populism without succumbing to its excesses. We really are in a fight to preserve everything we spent the seventy years since WWII building up, the modern world, the only world most of us have ever known. One more distraction is one more than we need.

That sounds like a verbatim quote that came out of a certain Charlottesville rally roughly a year ago.
