re: #172 Targetpractice

Sadly, it’s another of those items that we can hold our generation responsible for, another set of rights that our generation won’t fight for because it grew up taking them for granted and has no knowledge of a world without them. To women of our generation, the idea that RvW could be overturned and abortion (if not contraceptives) banned outright is impossible, they assume that the status quo can’t change because it’s been this way since before they were born. So they won’t fight for it, they won’t vote to support those who will, they just assume that it’s all talk and nothing will change.

I fear that by the time our brethren fully wise up, two generations of social progress will have been overridden and will take another two generations to win back.

Indeed, I have seen this with my own brother. He seems to think it’s crazy to think that a conservative court would overturn not just Roe but also Eisenstadt and even Griswold. You’re right about our generation. So many of them don’t think about the hard fought won battles of the past. It’s so frustrating and I think it’s why so many of them fall for “revolutionaries” like Ron Paul and Bernie Sanders that promise them revolutions rather than actually thinking about where we are and how we got here and where we’re going.
